Six signs of damage to your oil transformer

Oil immersed transformer is a common transformer. Like all transformers, they will be replaced in 7-15 years. Let’s learn how to judge whether the transformer is damaged?

1. DGA oil test

The dissolved gas oil test or DGA test is a test that shows gases dissolved in transformer oil. Determine whether the transformer needs to be replaced according to the gas content in the transformer.

2. Infrared scanning

The infrared scanning of the transformer can let you notice any possibly hot bushing or connection, and you can use this information to determine whether the weak point in the transformer can be repaired or needs to be replaced.

3. Leakage

Leaks can usually be repaired, but if you often repair transformer leaks, this may indicate that a larger fault is imminent.

4. Noise and vibration

Transformers are similar to cars. If their audio fails, it is worth considering.

5. Old and peeled paint

Transformer that is close to fault and needs to be replaced will usually get hot. One symptom of this situation is that it can warp the external paint or cause it to start peeling.

6. Color

Look at the color of your transformer oil. If it is black or dark, it indicates that it has been affected or pricked.
