The degradation of transformer insulation is often the result of a combination of multiple factors, not a single factor. Partial discharge is not only the cause of insulation degradation, but also a precursor and manifestation of insulation degradation. The direct causes of partial discharge in transformers usually include:

① There are burrs and sharp corners on the metal and insulation parts inside the transformer.

② There are air gaps, cracks, etc. inside the insulation components.

③ Poor electrical connection between metal grounding components and conductive bodies.

④ There are trace bubbles in the insulating oil.

⑤ There are debris left in the transformer, especially metal dust and paper fibers.

When it is suspected that there is partial discharge inside the transformer, various detection methods should be comprehensively analyzed and compared, such as dissolved gas analysis in oil, partial discharge testing, etc., to comprehensively analyze the equipment.
