The difference between a series resonant single reactor and an adjustable reactor

Electric power workers often use frequency conversion series resonance AC withstand voltage testing devices in their daily work. This device plays a very important role in AC voltage withstand tests. This device is composed of a combination of variable frequency power supply, excitation transformer, reactor, and voltage divider. Among them, reactors are divided into a single fixed reactor and an adjustable reactor. So what is the difference between these two types of reactors?

It can be affirmed that the functions of a single fixed reactor and an adjustable reactor are the same, with the difference being that the method of adjusting inductance is different for the two different reactors.

When a single fixed reactor is used in the series resonant AC voltage withstand test device, there are usually several single fixed reactors with the same configuration. This is because in the series resonant AC voltage withstand test, the required inductance varies depending on different test items and parameters. Therefore, multiple single fixed reactors can be combined arbitrarily, According to the actual test requirements, several reactors are combined in series and parallel to adjust the inductance to meet the test requirements.

If an adjustable reactor is used in the series resonant AC voltage withstand test device, then during the AC voltage withstand test process, the adjustable reactor does not need to be connected in series or parallel. Instead, real-time adjustment of inductance can be achieved through the test console to meet the inductance requirements of different tests. It can be seen that the adjustable reactor eliminates some of the work of handling and adjusting a single fixed reactor, making it more convenient to use.

Although adjustable reactors are more convenient to use than single fixed reactors, they also have their drawbacks. Due to the adjustable inductance of adjustable reactors, the weight and volume of adjustable reactors are generally relatively large, making it difficult to move and transport. Moreover, due to technological limitations, in higher voltage level AC withstand voltage tests, a single fixed reactor is still needed to better perform series resonance AC withstand voltage tests.
